The hilltop Carcosa Seri Negara and Istana Tetamu site overlooks Perdana Lake Gardens and the Kuala Lumpur skyline. Our proposal for a luxury hotel and housing works with the terrain to capture these views while preserving the scale and presence of the historic mansions. Most amenities and back-of-house areas are embedded in a garden level, allowing the new buildings to remain low and deferential. Operable brises-soleil temper the tropical sun while opening to expansive views. The new forms derive from rotated samples of Carcosa’s roofline, creating a related family of contemporary silhouettes
