"Into the Crater" commemorates Cold War veterans by transforming the 1.2ha Wisconsin site into a symbolic lunar landscape. Inspired by the Space Race, the design uses crater-like landforms to represent the era's psychological impact. Visitors navigate a path through eight emotional stages—from the "Fear" of Sputnik to the "Calm" of international cooperation. Materials like stainless steel, white granite, and gravel contrast with shifting vegetation, from mowed grass to wild meadows. In winter, snow enhances the desolate moonscape, offering a profound space for reflection and healing.
