Within the volcanic landscape of Þjórsárdalur, Stöng redefines engagement with one of Iceland’s most significant archaeological sites. Retaining and transforming the existing shelter, the project protects fragile eleventh-century Viking-age ruins while improving public access through the integration of bridge, walkways, and seating. Built from larch, galvanized steel, and polycarbonate, it advances a sustainable, holistic vision that mediates between past and present, heritage and landscape.
