As China’s first 3D-printed concrete structure in extreme environment, the project supports ecological restoration in Inner Mongolia, by providing shelter and supporting facilities for tree planting volunteers to contain Tengger Desert’s hazardous expansion eastward. Given the harsh construction conditions and limited time frame, design team employed 3D concrete printing technology for rapid on-site installation. With natural water supply and recycling sewage, the campsite is fully powered by off-grid PV system, resulting in zero carbon emission level and a fully self-sustainable operation.
