The new William Felton “Bill” Russell Bridge replaces a century-old Boston Harbor structure with a modern, multimodal design. Notably, 40% of its width is dedicated to pedestrians and cyclists, featuring Boston’s first bridge-integrated cycle tracks. The bridge supports four vehicular lanes plus a dedicated bus/HOV lane. Its architecture, inspired by the nearby Zakim Bridge, includes curved overlooks at the center span. These public spaces offer seating, shaded trellises, and landscaping, providing expansive harbor views and enhancing the waterfront experience for all users.
