This lighting project reimagines RAWHIDE — once confined to flat, supporting roles in Taiwanese shadow puppetry and drumheads—as a protagonist. A by-product of the meat industry, the rawhide is stretched and shaped by tension, transforming from a passive surface into slender, voluminous forms. Echoing beauty ideals and appearance anxiety, the design captures a delicate balance between fragility and strength. A brass frame supports the skin, its warm tones resonating with the rawhide’s hues—inviting reflection on tradition, material agency, and modern identity.
