The project proposes a public cemetery suspended above the ruins of ancient Herculaneum in Italy, as both a functional burial site and a monument to the volcanic tragedy that erased the city. A 250×100 m platform rests on massive columns, forming a bridge-like structure that spans over the archaeological site. Every element of the ruins below is carefully preserved, while the space beneath becomes a cave-like void. A central cavity monument marks the eruption as a timeless wound, connecting past, present and future through architecture and memory.
