The Perry Picnic Pavilion was commissioned in the wake of Hurricane Idalia's 2023 destruction that ravaged the community of Perry, Florida. Designed to be economical, easily assembled, and hurricane-proof, its simple structural bay can easily be fabricated and replicated. The materials utilize locally sourced wood from downed trees, scrap metal, and recycled concrete, the pavilion transforms debris into a symbol of recovery. With a dynamic, open design for natural shading and airflow, the pavilion serves as a much needed gathering space, sourced from the past and built for the future.
