This project seeks to remediate the site—a former floodplain altered by urban development—to its natural landscape. Design interventions reference elements of the wetland: fine gravel akin to the river’s sedimentary deposits; and a tapestry of native and native-like plants. An elevated boardwalk meanders across this unfenced field of sedges, willows and conifers. Its deviation from the grid symbolizes flux in nature. In the background, the familiar form of a gable structure floats above the wetland. Its weathered wood exterior emphasizes the need for symbiosis between the built and the natural.
