Situated in dawu village of Chaozhou, the new community center is renovated from an abandoned kindergarten. In Chinese villages, old trees provide shelter and naturally become gathering spots for people. The renovation was inspired by the 300-hundred-year-old banyan tree on-site. A new center was built without walls to form an open and borderless space by virtue of advanced steel and wooden structure, forming the coexistence of new and old elements while paying tribute to the value of traditional ritual systems in Chaozhou traditional culture.
