For the poster celebrating 60th anniversary of Rio de Janeiro’s School of Industrial Design, ESDI, it begins from the contrast between two universes that make up the origins of the institution: industrial principles taught at the Bauhaus and the life of sunny Rio. To address two very different universes, main elements of the emblematic Bauhaus’s poster by Herbert Bayer was sampled – as it is done in music – and assembled with the Copacabana beach image. The poster thus explains the formation of Brazilian design through the contrast between the local context and the European avant-garde ideas.
