J39.5 is a series of chairs made up of reassembled parts of Borge Mogensen’s J39. It started when we came across a group of J39 chairs that had been sitting in a warehouse, damaged or missing parts, unrepaired. Initially, we tried to restore the damaged parts using new material, but because we wanted to respect the original design and the J39 itself is a redesign of the Shaker chair, we decided to aim to redesign the J39 using the remaining parts. The chair, which had lost its functionality due to damaged parts, could not become J39, but with our design (+0.5), it was reborn as “J39.5”.
