This low-carbon extension to a historic farm cottage building provides new family living space, with a contemporary interpretation of the traditional barn typology with modern materials and large glazed openings. The design includes translucent concrete, oil larch timber cladding, and a protruding balcony providing extended views and dynamic quality to the forms when viewed from a distance. The building envelope is made of 100% recycled Durisol insulated blocks and oil larch timber cladding, contributing to the building's overall carbon use.
