This loft was for a British financier who wanted a home away from home in Manhattan. The apartment had been stripped of its industrial heritage, but 12-foot Corinthian cast-iron columns, which now act as freestanding sculptures, remain. Removing partition walls recast one of the bedrooms as a study, and a sweeping curved wall now circumscribes the guest room, adding space to the primary suite. The bathrooms have stone walls, limestone floors, and oversized mirrors. The kitchen echoes the texture and color of a steel architectural surround fabricated for the fireplace in the living room.
