On the 100th anniversary of its founding, Imura Envelope Co., Inc. launched a new project, converting a traditional Japanese home into a training site. To create a site that preserved history while providing a space for talking about the future, our design involved partially dismantling the existing building but keeping the sturdy exposed frame and thatched roof. The tori-doma, an earthen path that passed through the home to the center garden, was the linchpin of the design.
