Devils Gate is a passion project helmed by winemaker Clay Selkirk, named after a nearby coastal rock formation. The micro-winery is run by its winemaker in the hills of Cayucos, the seaside community where Selkirk grew up. Selkirk's degree is in classics, so the label features excerpts from classic works referencing the devil: Iliad, Aeneid, Le Puits de Sainte Claire, Faust, Dante's Inferno, and Paradise Lost. The original illustrations place the devil at his gate in the sea, tying the name, the winemaker, and the place together. The printing combines foil with metallic ink for lush impact.
