This 30-story Courtyard by Marriott stands just steps from the Memorial Pools, a fact that drove DF&A’s design decisions. The tower faces the World Trade Center site with a faceted glass exterior that appears to float above street level. The podium, however, is clad in an elegant steel mesh, shading the lower floors, while above, a sky bar offers a place to contemplate the city overlooking Memorial Park. DF&A’s hotel is not a part of Libeskind’s master plan for Ground Zero, but it neighbors the four massive towers that underpin the complex, and it ably takes its place as Tower 4.5.
